Entre duas línguas: novela

Abstract

This thesis comprises a novella and a reflection that intend to contribute to the production and research in the area of Creative Writing. The novella, entitled In between two tongues, tells the story of a woman who travels to France to study and finds herself in a love relationship with her tutor, facing states of passion, obsession, depersonalization and disappointment – affects that precipitate her into reflections on the feminine and love. The characters are in a francophone universe, but the novel is written in Portuguese, that is, the narrator transcribes / translates experiences from another language. This language drama also becomes a drama of affective identity when the character sees her lover walk away after a brief and intense love encounter. The reflection includes the discussion of relevant points related to the creative process, such as the option for the literary genre of the novella, as opposed to the short story and the novel, and also formal issues such as the female narrative voice, temporality and metalanguage.

Cette thèse de doctorat vise à contribuer à la production et à la recherche dans le domaine de l’Écriture Créative au travers d’une nouvelle et d’une réflexion. La nouvelle, intitulée L’entre deux langues, raconte l’histoire d’une femme qui arrive en France pour étudier et s’engage dans une relation amoureuse avec son professeur, où elle devra faire face à la passion, l’obsession, la dépersonnalisation et la déception – des affects qui la précipitent dans des réflexions sur le féminin et l’amour. Les personnages sont dans un univers francophone, mais l’histoire est écrite en portugais, c’est-à-dire que la narratrice transcrit / traduit des expériences dans une autre langue. Ce drame de langage devient également un drame d’identité affective lorsque le personnage voit son amant s’éloigner après une brève et intense rencontre amoureuse. La réflexion rend compte de la discussion sur les points pertinents liés au processus de création, tels que l’option pour la « nouvelle » en tant que genre littéraire par opposition au conte et au roman, ainsi que des questions formelles telles que la voix narrative féminine, la temporalité et le métalangage.
