Cultura nacional e o desenvolvimento de software em times globalmente distribuídos

Abstract

Information Systems (IS) development performed by global distributed teams is a practice widely applied and adopted in the Information Technology (IT) industry. The adoption of this practice reveals significant challenges for resource managers and coordinators responsible for these teams, given that, in a multicultural context, the cultural differences of the actors that are part of this software development process are evidenced. The ideational manifestations and the different characteristics may reveal national culture aspects that influence the project management goals achievement. Thereby, this dissertation seeks to answer the following research question: What is the national culture effect manifested by global distributed software development teams in the project management success factors? To answer this question, an exploratory qualitative research was conducted; applying a case study in an IT company that widely adopts the concept of global distributed IS development.Based on the Hofstede‟ s cultural dimensions and the indexes assigned to cultures from different nationalities, the cultural manifestations and the impact on achieving project management goals were related to each other. The findings derived from this research allow the identification of national cultural manifestation in the individuals; the alignment between national culture and the indexes identified by Hofstede and the relationship between the national culture manifestations and the impacts in the IS development project management in a global distributed team context
