Tem como pano de fundo os trens de passageiros do Rio Grande do Sul. Há, além do romance, um prefácio do autor que mostra a trajetória de escrita e as decisões sobre personagem, espaço e narrador, bem como as pesquisas e divagações próprias deste tipo de tesepor
