Consumo de alimentos orgânicos : uma abordagem biográfica

Abstract

The environment and organic food have been receiving attention from sociologists and other researchers. However, there is a lack of better understanding of the relationships that guide the environment, society and the social contexts that involve the consumption of organic food. In view of this, the objective of this study is to understand what some of the motivations that lead consumers to adopt an organic diet and to attend the Feira da Redenção located in the city of Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, through their narratives and sharing of their life stories. This study used the qualitative and interpretative methodology of the Reconstructive Approach of Biographical Narratives and did not involve statistical representation. With an in-depth analysis of the interviews, the results obtained showed that the motivations of the attendees of the Feira da Redenção, who are supporters of organic food, are related to three factors: 1) political/food activism; 2) health care and 3) habit and convenience acquired over the years. In the conclusion, theoretical and practical contributions are highlighted, with suggestions for public policies related to the work theme.
