 	abstract = "The aim of this triple-blind, split-mouth, randomized trial was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations (5%, 10% or 35%) of potassium nitrate (PN) prior to in-office bleaching on tooth sensitivity (TS) and color change. Sixty participants were randomly divided into two groups (n=30): Group A: 5% PN (control) and 10% PN (treatment); and Group B: 5% PN (control) and 35% PN (treatment). Each concentration of PN was applied to a hemi-arch for 10 minutes. After the removal of the desensitizer gel, 35% bleaching agent (Whiteness HP Blue) was applied for 40 minutes. The participants underwent two sessions of bleaching
 with a one-week interval between sessions. TS was recorded using a questionnaire and a 0-10 visual analog scale after the first and second bleaching sessions, as well as one week after the second bleaching session. The color change was evaluated by a subjective method (Vita Classical and Bleach Color Chart) at baseline and one week after the second bleaching session. The prevalence of TS was evaluated using a McNemar’s test. TS intensity and color
 change were evaluated using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests, and Fisher Exact test was used to compare the sides of the mouth (α=0.05). The results showed that there was a significant reduction in the prevalence of TS in group A (p=0.013) and group B (p=0.000), although no significant difference was observed between the control and treatment sides (p>0.05). There was a significant reduction in TS intensity following the assessments for both groups (p<0.05). No significant difference was detected in color change between groups
 A and B (p>0.05). In conclusion, the different concentrations of PN were effective in reducing the prevalence and intensity of TS, and the treatments did not affect color change.",
